Nov 20 : In a spirited effort to unite the Mogarnad Church community, the Deva Matha Youth Movement (ICYM) orchestrated SAMBHRAM—a joyous celebration through ward-wise games and Children's Day festivities. Held on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Deva Matha English Medium School Grounds, this event marked a jubilant occasion, fostering community bonds through various engaging game activities.

Distinguished guests, including Rev Fr Anil Canute Dmello (Parish Priest and Director of DMYM), Mr Santhosh Dsouza (Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council), Mr Wilfred Lobo (Secretary of the Parish Pastrol Council), Mrs Emiliana Dcunha (Coordinator of all the Commissions of the Church), Sr Anne (Head of Deva Matha Convent), Mr Praveen Dcunha (President of ICYM, St John Paul II Deanery), Mr James Martis (Honorary President of DMYM Ruby Jubilee Committee), Mr Prashanth Lewis (Animator of DMYM), Mr Avit Premson Lobo (President of DMYM) and Mr Newton Lobo (Sports Secretary of DMYM) graced the event. The program commenced with a hymn led by DMYM members, setting the tone for a day filled with camaraderie and excitement.

Avit Premson Lobo, President of DMYM, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. The event was inaugurated symbolically by lighting candles on a Banana Plant, a meaningful gesture carried out by the dignitaries alongside Ward Gurkars.

Rev Fr Anil Canute Dmello emphasized the significance of participation over victory in game activities. He highlighted the physical and mental well-being benefits, noting that such engagements provide a reprieve from daily stressors and contribute to community unity and healthy relationships.

Following the formalities, Sports Secretary Newton Lobo expressed gratitude in a well-conveyed vote of thanks. The lively compering by Ms Glenita Dcunha added an engaging touch to the program.

The morning session featured DMYM members organizing various games for children in batches, including Carrom, Wealth out of Waste, and Art and Craft for the ward members.

Following the lunch break, the afternoon session unfolded with an array of ward-wise traditional activities along with modern activities, evoking nostalgic memories of the games cherished during our childhood days. The atmosphere was infused with a sense of joy and sentimentality as participants engaged in activities reminiscent of the timeless games that formed an integral part of our youth. The event not only fostered community unity but also served as a delightful journey down memory lane, connecting generations through the shared experience of these cherished traditional games.

The eagerly awaited results culminated in the celebration of the champions:

Championship: St Lawrence Ward
1st Runners-up: St Paul Ward
2nd Runners-up: Infant Jesus Ward

SAMBHRAM emerged as a resounding success, embodying the spirit of the Mother of God Church community. The event seamlessly blended enjoyment and fitness, illustrating that community engagement transcends the spiritual realm. Organizers, participants, and attendees collectively contributed to making SAMBHRAM a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.
