Jan 23, 2024 : The Ashokanagar unit of ICYM organized a spirited Interward Cricket Match on January 21st at St Dominic's Church Ground. The event kicked off at 9:00 am with a formal program, featuring esteemed dignitaries on the dias: Chief Guest Fr. Xavier, Parish Priest Fr. Daniel Veigas, Parish Council President Mr. Maxim Crasta, Secretary Deborah Locker, and ICYM President Mr. Loyston Dsouza.

The formal program commenced with a hymn performed by ICYM members, followed by a warm welcome speech from ICYM President Mr. Loyston Dsouza. Addressing the gathering, Fr. Xavier, Fr. Daniel Veigas, and Mr. Maxim Crasta shared their thoughts and encouragement.

An exciting inauguration ceremony, led by Chief Guest Fr. Xavier and other honored guests, marked the beginning of the cricket extravaganza. A total of 11 teams participated, including 10 wards and 1 religious team. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as each ward showcased their cricket prowess, adding to the joyous spirit of the event.

The umpires for the event, Mr. Ashok and Mr. Preethesh, ensured fair play and upheld the spirit of the game throughout the matches.

The venture reached its climax with the valedictory program, which commenced at 5:45 pm. The dias was graced by Fr. Xavier, Fr. Daniel Veigas, Mr. Maxim Crasta, Mrs. Deborah Locker, Mrs. Meera Mendonca, and Mr. Loyston Dsouza. Mr. Nixon Crasta announced the results, declaring Dominic B Ward as the champions, Shediguri A as the runners-up, and the Religious Team (Community Brothers and Sisters) securing the third position.

To acknowledge the spirited participation of all wards, participation prizes were awarded. Additionally, individual achievements were recognized, including Best Batsmen, Bowler, Best Women Bowlers and Batswomen, and the coveted All-Rounder award.

The cricket event at St. Dominic's Church Ground wasn't just about the game but also brought people together. As the sun set, memories lingered, creating strong bonds among everyone, making it a special part of ICYM's journey in Ashokanagar.
