Sep 11 : Krishna Janmashtami, a Hindu festival celebrated to commemorate Lord Krishna's birth anniversary, was observed on September 6, 2023. Krishna Janmashtami also known as Gokulashtami is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the 8th avatar of Vishnu. Mosaru Kudike is observed on the second day of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, to imitate the action of Lord Krishna and the Gopalakas. To observe Mosaru Kudike, youngsters form human pyramids to reach the top of the ‘Chappara’ to break the earthen pots filled with curds, saffron water, goodies, cold drinks, vegetables, cash prizes and eatables. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in several parts of Mangalore and Udupi.

On this occasion Indian catholic youth movement (ICYM) unit of St Sebastian Church, Permannur celebrated this festival by putting up a wishing banner for Janmashtami and Mosaru Kudike . The Youth also witnessed the most famous Mosaru Kudike celebration at Thokkottu. There were different tableaus depicting different mythological stories and also the most focused Pili nalike. These gestures are very necessary to create a sense of unity among the youth. Unit Director Rev. Fr Cyprian Pinto motivated and supported them throughout.
