Aug. 03, 2017: Inter-parish 30 yard underarm cricket tournament BARISH TROPHY 2017 was organized by St. Joseph the Worker Church, ICYM Vamanjoor, here on Sunday July 30 at Vamanjoor Church Grounds, Vamanjoor.
Movin D'Souza, the president of ICYM Vamanjoor Unit welcomed the gathering. Fr. Cyprian Pinto, Director of ICYM Vamanjoor Unit formally inaugurated the program by handing over the cricket bat and ball to the Sports Secretary Sohan D'Souza and also encouraged the participants to play the game without any chaos. Prashma Viegas compered the inaugural program. Loyson Rodrigues, the assistant Sports Secretary, Rohan Periera and Edwin Pinto, the animators were present on the dais. Renita Fernandes, the Secretary of ICYM Vamanjoor Unit proposed the vote of thanks.
As many as 26 teams participated in the tournament enthusiastically and with much zeal. Sayyad Gurukambla delivered the spectacular live commentary of the event throughout the day. Mangaluru fame Vishu and Raghav were the umpires. MLA Mohiuddin Bava attended the event for a brief period of time and also played an over or two with the players.
At the valedictory ceremony, Fr. Cyprian Pinto, the Parish Priest of Vamanjoor Parish, Fr. Jason Monis, the assistant Parish Priest, Elroy Saldanha ICYM Central Council President, Ivy Melisha Dsouza, the Lady Vice President were present. In his message Fr. Cyprian Pinto told that ICYM Vamanjoor has successfully organized BARISH TROPHY 2017. Also the players were very much enthusiastic and showed true sportsman spirit. He then congratulated all the participants and the ever enthusiastic ICYM members, who put in all their efforts in making this event a great success.
Man of the series was won by Liston Bajjodi, Man of the Match (finals) was won by Hansi Bondel, Best Bowler and Best Batsman was won by Mithun Bondel and Liston Bajjodi respectively. BARISH TROPHY 2017 was won by the Bondel Unit by beating the Bajjodi Unit in the finals. The third place was bagged by Merlapadav unit.
Sandhya Montiero compered the valedictory program. Movin D'Souza, the president of ICYM Vamanjoor Unit thanked the sponsors and all those who had helped to make the cricket tournament a great success.
