28-09-2014: Our Konkani Culture is at the verge of deterioration due to western thinking in our thought pattern, dress materials, language and all the spheres that are possible to kill the ancient traditional rich culture. In order to protect the rich culture that has been handed over to us by our ancestors, the ICYM Unit of Maril church had an exhibition that gave the rich culture of our fore fathers to the viewers. Some two months remote preparation and a month’s proximate preparation of the ICYM Unit of the Church made them to present our rich culture.
The programme was inaugurated at 10.30am by the Vicar Forane of Puttur Deanery, V. Rev. Fr. Alfred Pinto. Mrs. Flavia Albuquerque, renowned Konkani writer gave a key note address over the Konkani cultural heritage. With the presence and blessings of His Excellency Gee Varghese Mar Deevanasios, the Malankara Bishop of Puttur the inauguration was a grand success. Mr. Roy Castelino, the President of Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, Fr. Ronald D’ Souza, the Director of the ICYM, Diocese of Mangalore, Mr. Vishwas Lobo, the President of ICYM, Puttur Deanery were present for the concluding programme at 4pm.
A short cultural programme was presented by the youth and parishioners after the stage programme. The whole programme was highly appreciated by the viewers. It gave a past memory for the elders and seniors and new sights to the younger generation of modern time. The highlight of the procession was the bullock Cart. Bullocks were brought from Hassan for the procession.
