Aug. 1, 2016: ICYM Cordel unit in collaboration with students of St. Jospeh Primary and High School, Kulshekar organized ‘Vanamahotsava’ the annual tree planting festival of India on 30th June 2016 in Kulshekar.
Preceding the event, there was an awareness rally organized in view of educating people regarding importance of planting saplings and saving trees for our better future. The rally begun from Holy Cross Church Play Ground to Shakthinagar Cross road at 8:30am, where nearly more than 750 children participated with slogans for planting and saving trees and to save our mother land.
Rev. Fr. Victor Machado, Director of ICYM presided over the function. Chief guest for the program was Mr. P.Sridhar, Range Forest Officer, Mangalore. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest appreciated the ICYM members for organizing such a good program. He further added that Vanamahotsava was initiated in 1950 and it is not a one day program and should continue throughout the year in our houses. He also advised the children to spend their pocket money for planting a sapling. He appreciated children and congratulated them participating in the rally amidst heavy rains.
Rev. Fr.Victor Machado in his presidential remarks appreciated ICYM Cordel unit for organizing such a program which creates awareness among people to save trees. He also congratulated the children for actively participating and their teachers for guiding the children.
Fr.Anil Avild Lobo, Asst. Director of ICYM Cordel, Fr. Paul Prakash D’Souza, Asst. Parish Priest, Mr. Michael D’souza, Secretary of Parish Pastoral Council of Cordel, Sr. Rita Felcy, Headmistress of St. Joseph Primary School , Mrs. Sunitha D’Souza, Headmistress of St. Joseph High School were present on the dias.
Mr. Vivan Pinto , President of ICYM Cordel welcomed the gathering.Ms. Ashel D’Silva, President of YCS Proposed the vote of thanks. The program was conducted by the students of St. Joseph English Medium High School which concluded with National Anthem.
